Syllabus

This training provides a practical introduction to hybridization in cryptographic protocols. It begins with an overview of the main hybridization concepts and the associated security models. It then reviews the current state of protocol migration, with a particular focus on TLS 1.3. The training highlights what can be deployed in a backward-compatible manner, what requires particular attention, what is still under standardization, and the approaches that help control deployment risks. It also presents the maturity of the currently available libraries and implementations. The day concludes with hands-on exercises dedicated to TLS 1.3 migration, including hybrid certificates and the establishment of a local hybrid connection.

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the principles of hybridization and the associated security models.
  2. Assess the current state of the post-quantum transition in TLS 1.3 and identify key deployment challenges.
  3. Work with a hybrid protocol and recognize the practical issues involved in deploying post-quantum cryptography.

This training can follow the introductory training on post-quantum cryptography as well as the trainings on hands-on with ML-KEM and ML-DSA and hands-on with SLH-DSA, FN-DSA and HQC.

Language

The training is provided in French by default but sessions can also be delivered in English.

1 day in our offices in Paris or on-site.

Pre-requisites

Participants should already be reasonably familiar with the TLS protocol and comfortable using Linux command-line tools. A laptop is required.
